The Live Green! Initiative, launched in 2008, is Iowa State University's campus-wide commitment to sustainability. It encourages all students, faculty and staff to actively engage in creating a greener, more sustainable campus. Guided by the principle of using resources responsibly to meet present needs without compromising future generations, Live Green! fosters environmental, economic and social sustainability across campus operations and initiatives. This commitment aligns with the Iowa Board of Regents' vision, which integrates sustainability into academics, research, operations and partnerships. Together, these efforts ensure ISU remains a leader in sustainability among land-grant institutions.

About the Live Green! Initiative
How We Define Sustainability
Achieving true sustainability requires the full and simultaneous integration of economic, environmental and social factors. Each dimension supports and influences the others, and only by addressing them together can we create lasting, balanced solutions. This holistic approach ensures that sustainability is not just about preserving resources, but also about fostering economic growth and social well-being for the long term.
