The Campus Sustainability Month celebration offers students easy and simple ways to live sustainably. The event brings together clubs, organizations and businesses that support sustainable goals, practices and events, in turn encouraging participants to become more involved with sustainability on campus and in the Ames community. Participating groups often promote events, sign-up new members/volunteers and provide giveaway items/coupons.

The Campus Sustainability Month celebration is held every October in honor of Campus Sustainability Month, which is sponsored by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), "a non-profit membership organization that empowers higher education faculty, administrators, staff and students to be effective change agents and drivers of sustainability innovation." According to AASHE, the month "provides an unparalleled series of opportunities to engage and inspire incoming students and other campus stakeholders to become leaders for sustainability." As a member of this organization, the Office of Sustainability regularly presents at the annual AASHE Conference, the nation's largest campus sustainability event of its kind.
